Product First Approach means making sure we are creating the right product, for the right people, in the right way, with the right price and right distribution method.
To get where we are today, our team has gone through a few steps:
- Started by sensing a need (used to work in a company that had no room for calls);
- To overcome the problem, we did market research and found that there was a gap in the market when it came to Phone Booths;
- Our next step was to design what we wanted as a Customer, and in the meantime, we continued to talk to outside companies (in order to give us some directions and highlights of their problems and what we should do).
A product-first approach also means that we are testing faster, however, we only make valid decisions for each customer.
So sometimes we have to say no, and sometimes we have to adjust the product to the customer’s needs, however, we try to make our product 90% common to all customers.
The importance of feedback
To understand how potential customers and companies would adapt to our product, we conducted interviews and created simple conversations with them in order to be curious and recognize the problem.
In order to improve the product, we strategically created satisfaction surveys to share with our daily users.
One customer’s comment may be common to all, so we take it seriously and improve it for everyone.
The importance of testing
Our first product is very different compared to today because we kept testing, and improvements have been implemented since our first feedback, improving over time.
Advantages of this approach for our customers
Product First Advantages:
- Working together with our customers;
- Align Design, Price and Features from day one;
- Better User Experience;
- Long-term innovation and Product Development.
The Challenges for Companies
We started with a doorless phone booth, but did not fit most of our customers’ requirements and we were challenged by some of them to improve it.
To meet their expectations a door was placed, electronic material inside the phone booth and even a fan system.
The challenges generated by other companies lead us to great learnings that will later be reflected on our customers.
Team
None of this is possible without a team. We have worked with Product Managers, Designers, Architect, Acoustic Engeeneers and more, to discuss Ideas and Technical details along the way.
It’s critical to make the right questions and digest correctly all customer information. And then work with technical team to make it possible, and to find ways to meet customer requirements.
Software approach
Product managers who manage technology products are used to work with this approach:
- Always testing, component by component;
- Test to different users;
- Understand what best suits their needs;
- Draw conclusions;
- Standardize.
We try to apply the same methodology in Offcoustic. Make small tests fast, and small. Most of them will fail, and we will adapt. The best experiments, makes great features and great products.
We started in 2020, and we can proudly say our Products are much better. And we’re still trying new things, and we have Product Roadmap, Product Bugs tracking system, and we still have much to learn and to build.
In 2022 we started to add technology in some of our Projects. We’re just getting started.
